South Mountain Park is one of the largest municipal parks in the nation. It consists of 3 mountain ranges. The park contains more than 50 miles of trails. I began this 7.4 mile hike at the Pyramid Trailhead.

I hiked up here this time for the sole purpose of photography during the golden hour. First is was 1.1 miles on the Huckaby Trail to a faint and unmaintained trail. There is a juniper tree with an ocotillo growing through it just before the trail. Total distance to the top was 2.2 miles with about 1,000 feet of elevation gain.
My route was the red track on this hike. |
My sole purpose of this return hike to Battlement Mesa was to photograph Sedona while the sun was setting. The hike to the top took me 40 minutes and was 1.6 miles one way.

This time my hike in Long Canyon was to find more cliff dwellings. I had success this time!
This is where I connected with the main trail upon my return. |
