Little Cat Mountain & Bobcat Ridge - Tucson Mountain Park

I hiked up Little Cat Mountain, and Bobcat Ridge for a 4.2 mile loop hike. The 1.3 mile hike to the summit of Little Cat Mountain took me 52 minutes. The entire loop hike took me 3 hours and 4 minutes. This is in the Tucson Mountain Park.

Cat Mountain - Tucson Mountain Park

I hiked up Cat Mountain by heading up the difficult northwest ridge, and then descended the easier eastern ridge. The northwest ridge has occasional rock cairns, and sometimes you can see a trail. My hike was 4.2 miles and took me 4 hours. First it was a 1 mile hike on the Sarasota Trail to the base of Cat Mountain. Then it was 0.73 miles to the summit, and that took me 1 hour and 30 minutes. Going down the eastern ridge was easier. That obvious trail took me 36 minutes to get down the mountain and connect with the Explorer Trail. That trail from the summit is 0.61 miles. From there it is 1.9 miles back to the trailhead.

Turk's Head - Superstition Mountains

I hiked up Turk's Head for the second time. I followed the Lost Goldmine Trail from the Hieroglyphic Trailhead for 2 miles. It took me 47 minutes to reach the rock cairn which marked the social trail in the wash. Then I made the off trail scramble up the peak. It took me 34 minutes to reach the summit from the rock cairn. From the parking lot it had taken me 1 hour and 20 minutes to reach the top of Turk's Head. The entire hike was 5.6 miles round trip and took me 3.5 hours. I got back to my car just as the sun fell below the horizon.

The Superstition Mountains are composed of welded tuff (volcanic ash cemented under extreme heat), granite, dacite, basalt, and some conglomerate.
