Turk's Head - Superstition Mountains

I began my hike to Turk's Head at 5:27 PM. It was my first summer ascent. It took me 52 minutes to reach the base of the craggy rock outcropping situated directly south of the main Superstition Mountains ridge. Turk's head is a product of intensive Miocene volcanic activity. The formation is primarily composed of dacite lava and rhyolitic tuff (compressed volcanic ash). From the parking lot it had taken me 1 hour and 40 minutes to reach the 2,822-foot summit. I finished my hike at 8:46 PM. My hike was 5.4 miles round-trip, and it took me 3 hours and 17 minutes.

Turk's Head is a ramp shaped peak with a 2,822 foot summit, south of the Superstition Mountains. I led my sister Debbie, and her husband Denny, on a hike up Turk's Head. We started at 8:28 AM. Our hike was 5.5 miles round-trip, and it took us 3 hours and 41 minutes.

I started my hike at 9:48 AM, and it took me 45 minutes to reach the base of Turk's Head. That was 2.2 miles. From there it was about a half mile to the summit. I was on the 2,822-foot summit at 11:12 AM, and it had taken me 1 hour and 23 minutes. From the base to the summit took me about 37 minutes. At 11:26 AM I headed back, and arrived at my car at 12:38 AM. My hike was 5.5 miles round-trip, and it took me 2 hours and 49 minutes.
