Drew Canyon Trail via Highline Trail - Tonto National Forest

I began my hike on the Highline Trail at 9:01 AM. After hiking 2.7 miles I arrived at the Drew Canyon Trail. That took me 1 hour and 19 minutes. Next was a 1 mile hike up to the Mogollon Rim. That took me 59 minutes. The elevation gain was about 812 feet. The temperature on the rim was 80 degrees.  After a short break I started back down at 11:42 AM. I reached the Highline Trail in 29 minutes. Then after taking an alternate bypass of the steep section on the Highline Trail I arrived back at my car at 1:20 PM. The bypass made my hike almost a half mile longer. My round-trip hike was 7.8 miles, and it took me 4 hours and 19 minutes.

Caving - Tonto National Forest

This was a beginners vertical trip that I helped with as an instructor. 

Humphrey's Peak (no summit) - Coconino National Forest

I began my hike at 7:42 AM, and again, I could not make it to the summit. It took me 3 hours and 40 minutes to reach the saddle at 11,778 feet elevation. Which should take me no more than 3 hours. I finished my 7.8 mile round-trip hike at 2:16 PM, and it had taken me 6 hours and 33 minutes.

 

Kendrick Peak - Coconino National Forest

I began my hike up Kendrick Peak at 9:01 AM. It took me 2 hours and 58 minutes to reach the 10,418-foot summit. I finished my 9.2 mile round-trip hike at 2:38 PM. It took me 5 hours and 24 minutes. It was 93 degrees.

 

Horton Creek - Tonto National Forest

I began my hike on the Horton Creek Trail at 8:04 AM. I wanted to escape the desert heat. It was 114 degrees in Mesa today, but the trail which is near Payson, was in the mid 80s. I hiked 7.3 miles round-trip to the spring. Horton Spring emerges directly from the base of the Mogollon Rim at an elevation of about 6,600 feet. The water flows from the moss covered limestone creating the perennial headwaters of Horton Creek.
