I camped at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument for two nights. There was only one other camper in the entire campground. In the morning I drove across the border into Sonoyta, Mexico. From there it was 63 miles to Puerto Peñasco. When I arrived in Puerto Peñasco, I set out to go hiking. I did a 2.5 mile loop hike up Cerro La Choya which means The Lazy Hill. Afterwards, I went to Playa Hermosa to go swimming. Unfortunately, after about 5 minutes in knee deep water I was stung in the ankle by a stingray. At first, I wasn't sure what marine life had stabbed me. I sat down in the sea and raised my foot out of the water. I saw a bleeding puncture wound. At that moment, I suspected a stingray and it hurt. I got up and limped back to my lawn chair on the beach. Beach security wandered over and asked if I was alright. "I got stung by a stingray" I told him. He then called for a paramedic on his cell phone. In a short time the paramedic was treating my wound.
For the rest of the day I couldn't go swimming, and I left early. Then I had a nice dinner at Avacato Burrito Republic.
