I started my hike at 8:27 AM. My goal was to hike up Ballantine Canyon. This time I took the easier trail that followed Pine Creek to the Ballantine Trail junction. It took me 32 minutes to reach the junction. That was 1.4 miles. Then I reached Boulder Flat at 10:15 AM, at 3.5 miles from the trailhead. Beyond this point, the trail often vanished and was frequently over grown with cat claw. Soon I became tired of fighting the thorny shrub, and I turned around at 5.5 miles. I took a short break and headed back at 12:19 PM. At 1:34 PM I reached Boulder Flat, and was finally on a good trail. After another break, I started back at 1:46 PM. At 2:53 PM, I was back at the trail junction of Pine Creek. Then I was back at my van at 3:29 PM. My hike was 11.1 miles round-trip, and it took me 7 hours and 1 minute.
